You're absolutely right saying that a small startup could benefit from having someone with a wide range of skills, this is 100% true.

On the other hand, designers still have a certain skill set they're the most confident in. So my point was that if you apply for a job in the fintech startup — highlight your fintech experience, rather than creating marketing assets for eshops, for example :)
